That week we met in the classroom to discuss are final project with Dr. Rees. He talk to us about have organization and a better understand of the contents. We have an appointment with Dawn at the El pueblo Museum to discuss the Website and what she wants on it.
Thursday the group met int he library and we discuss a change in the background theme. We are having problem with the font color and text type. So we had talk about doing that, hoping that Dawn will help us with the theme that she likes.
Still a lot of work to be done
So we met in the library and was talking about the website and broke it down to two different things
- written word
Then we had a Skype meeting with History Colorado people to discuss the in and out of their archives.
- the copyright information
- the digital collection
- the physical collection
So I work with me groups last week. We met in the library, working on the four floor. WE talked about many things:
- The website in general
- The picture from the History Colorado achieves
- The plan for the 10th, what we will have for that day
Then we met with Professor Rees, to discuss what we have done so far. I think we have made it ok, all down hill from here
So Last week, we got together to work on the website. On Monday, a guest speaker was talking about Copyright laws and we listen to him. Then on Thursday, we meet in the library, on the four floor, to talk about website.
We talk about three things
- where to get the picture, the copyright information about it.
- what our website was looking like
- how to put menu into links so you see only one menu with a drop link on it.
This is what we talk about and what we have been working on.
So Dawn, Dianne, Dorene, and myself met in the museum to talk about the website. The topic we talk about was if:
- The museum had copies of the silkscreen posters.
- The digital picture of the picture on the wall.
- Where to go to get the pictures.
Dawn talk about the picture from the Denver Public library and the small picture on the silkscreen posters. We will be looking at the picture and found them, hopefully, in digital format.
We will be meeting in the museum this Thursday to get the number of the small picture on the silkscreens.
So this week, we met at the El Pueblo museum to talk to Dawn. She give us some imformation about the History Colorado museum. We also talk about interviewing her about the Ludlow Massacre. We met to talk about getting the video of the child from the exhibit and the digital copies of the tent ledger. This week we are going to talk about the website in general and how we want it to look like.
So my group got together to talk about our pitch and what we wanted, it was a little difficult due to some of the groups having problem in the family. We decided on a pitch and have plans to meet this week at the museum to take picture of the artifacts. I have gotten the camera from Dr. Rees and will be taking a lot of picture.
I expect to have the picture on google drive to share with the rest of my group and hope to do the surprise thing that my groups is planning.
This project has, so far, been challenging and I love it
So I was reading the chapter called “Brand New World or Blind Alley? American History on the World Wide Web.” The chapter itself was not that long, but had some words that I did not know and some I had only heard about in passing. The Chapter first start talking about URL and Hypertexts, I did not know what Hypertext were until I read this, and how they are useful in everyday life. In one paragraph, the text starts talking about Mosaic, a browsers created in 1993, helped pave the way to making more use of the Internet.
The chapter also talks about Yahoo, which is the most comprehensive topical directory. On the history page, we get links to article like from the National Women’s History Project. This links, they take you to another site, where you read about whatever the hypertext says. The topic, “The great Depression,” give you a site on the Federal Theatre Project. It is a student page as well as one that present the Library of Congress history about the Depression.
Another area in the Chapter is, the area about Library and Archives online. Soon, everything you need to read, search, look at, and understand will all be available online. This will start by taking the most important knowledge and, first, putting in online, then moving it to a Archive so we have the information.
In the National Digital Library Program, or NDLP, you can already found ten of thousand of items to see. This archive has Media, photographs, recordings (both sound and video), etc. This is the largest archive online.
This is just some of the things you can found online, and it is some of the things my chapter talks about. It was interesting to read and some of the words throw my off, to the point of having to research the words.
